Hello, and welcome to the very first blog post for Misfit Baking Co! I’m so excited to share my story, my passion for baking, and a little taste of what makes our cottage food bakery in Fairmont, West Virginia, so special.
From Small Town California to West Virginia Charm
A few years ago, my family and I made the life-changing decision to move from a small town in California to Fairmont, West Virginia. Like many parents, we wanted to give our children a better life—a place with open skies, close-knit communities, and a sense of peace we felt was missing in the hustle and bustle of our old home.
While settling into our new surroundings, I found myself reflecting on the things that made me happiest. One memory stood out: the joy of baking. Baking had always been a love of mine, but somewhere along the way, life’s demands caused me to set it aside. Now, with a fresh start in a place as welcoming as Fairmont, I knew it was time to pick up the rolling pin and get back to it.
A New Beginning with Old Traditions
Launching a cottage food bakery has been a labor of love—a journey filled with flour-dusted countertops, late-night recipe testing, and so many sweet moments. Here at Misfit Baking Co, we focus on two things that matter most to us: affordability and creativity. We believe that everyone deserves to enjoy delicious baked goods, even on a budget. And we’re all about adding a little surprise to your day with flavors that are just a bit unusual—the kind of treats that make you pause and say, "Wow, I’ve never tasted anything like this before!"
